Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is quite simply, a state of mind. When you enter a deep level of relaxation, you are in Hypnosis. In this sense, everyone has been hypnotized before because everyone has reached a deep level of relaxation at one point or another. It is a slight shift in consciousness that we go into, hundreds of times a day. Have you ever missed a turn while driving because you were deep in thought? Or been engrossed in a movie you couldn’t hear your dog barking? Or deep in a book, that you almost forgot where you were?
Hypnotherapy is therapy for the client while in Hypnosis. When you use Hypnosis for therapy, the client is always in control, they can open their eyes at any point, reposition their body or speak if need be. Hypnotherapists use ‘Suggestive Therapy’, which as the name implies, is exactly that, making suggestions. Once the client is in a state of Hypnosis, the therapist can make positive suggestions to the subconscious mind.
To truly understand Hypnosis, one must understand the conscious and the subconscious mind, and the varying levels of Hypnosis. The conscious mind is the part of your mind that is responsible for logic and reasoning, it controls all the actions you do with intention. It also gives us the ability to rationalize, which keeps us sane. The subconscious mind can be best described as the ‘hard-drive’ – it stores every memory, experience, thought, emotion and image, that you’ve ever had. Unlike the conscious mind, which shuts down while you sleep, the subconscious mind never stops functioning. The subconscious mind is also black and white, for example if you are constantly thinking about your lack of money, then when this filters through to your subconscious mind, it actually thinks you want more of that, so intensifies your lack of money. What we are thinking consciously, is what is being stored in our subconscious mind and it is believed, that, materializes as our reality. Therefore our work at the subconscious level is crucial.
The varying levels of Hypnosis are Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta. Beta is the normal level of consciousness, the awaken state; this is the level we are in most of the day. Alpha is when we shift into a light daydream like state, for example when you drift into thought. Theta is the level where deep relaxation takes place, by this stage the conscious mind is mostly switched off and we can now access the subconscious mind. It is at this stage that suggestions can be made to the subconscious mind. Delta is when you fall asleep; the conscious mind at this stage is completely switched off.
Suggestions can be made to the subconscious mind to change redundant behaviors, traits or beliefs. Tools such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) are used to reprogram the subconscious mind so that deep-seated instincts and beliefs can be erased.
Whether you may be struggling with trying to lose weight, quitting smoking, insomnia, addictions, anxiety, fears, phobias, chronic pain, relationship issues etc., they’re all related to the subconscious mind. What most people don’t realize is our conscious mind only uses around a tenth of our brainpower. Therefore the remaining 90 percent is being used by our subconscious mind. This is where Suggestive Therapy can be life altering, by creating new neural pathways and erasing the ones that are detrimental to you.

What does a session look like?

Prior to the session, a phone consultation is held regarding what the client wants to work on. This in-depth discussion is the foundation for which the first session is based, key findings on the individuals belief system are used to curate the session. Sessions can include traditional hypnosis, where the therapist gets the client into a light hypnotic trance to then access the subconscious mind to clear emotional baggage first and then start making positive suggestions via Cell Command therapy. NLP tools such as emotional clearing, parts integration, forward pacing, timeline therapy, swish patterns, disassociation, reframing and modalities, can also be used to further aid and assist the foundation of the session. The session ends with a thorough discussion between the client and therapist. A detailed program is presented to the client to work on to further integrate and heal. The key is to over time eliminate negative habits, behaviors and thoughts to reprogram the mind with new limitless and serving beliefs. The only thing the client needs to do during the session is relax, be open minded and receptive to receiving.
